Watch the Flow of People to Kiyomizu-dera Temple from a Traditional Japanese-style Starbucks

On both sides of the narrow, sloping path leading to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, you’ll find a variety of charming old buildings, including souvenir shops, teahouses, restaurants, and cafés, making just a stroll through the area an exciting experience. Along with Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Sannen-zaka, and the connected Ninei-zaka and Ichinen-zaka streets are also some of Kyoto’s most famous sightseeing spots.

Sannen-zaka (Sannen means 3 years in japanese) is said to have been named after the year it was opened, in Daido 3 (808 AD), making it a historically significant path.

Right before the stone steps of Ninei-zaka, you’ll find the Starbucks Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya, housed in a beautiful, traditional Japanese building. Since its opening in 2017, it has become a prominent store in the famous Ninei-zaka area, using a building designated as a traditional Japanese structure.

If you’re visiting Kiyomizu-dera Temple, it’s a must-stop place on your way back!
